Funding & payouts
How payments are funded, what to do if funding fails, and how payout dates are set.
- How invoice funding works and how long it takesWhen you pay approved invoices, they’re batched into one payment, your payment method is charged (funding), and once that settles each contractor’s payout is sent. Card payments clear quickly; bank (ACH) payments take a few business days. The exact estimated funding date is shown on the payment.
- How payments and payouts workYou’re always charged in USD. Each contractor is paid in their own currency, so when that differs from USD the amount is converted. On top of the contractor’s amount you pay a processing fee (by payment method) plus, for cross-currency payouts, an FX spread and an FX buffer. The contractor receives their full agreed amount — you cover the fees.
- How the payout date is calculatedEach invoice has a payout date — when Flamingo schedules the contractor’s payment — based on the contract’s invoicing frequency (a set weekday for weekly, around the 15th for monthly, or the 10th & 25th for arrears, shifted off weekends/holidays). After the payout is sent, funds take a few more business days to reach the bank.
- Spotting fake payment requests and bank-detail changesBank details are only ever changed by their owner, inside Flamingo, confirmed by a code emailed to them. Treat any emailed request to change bank details or wire money somewhere new as unverified until you have checked it in the app and by phone on a number you already had.
- Understanding payroll runsA payroll run is the batch created when you pay one or more approved invoices — it’s charged to your payment method as a single transaction, then distributed to each contractor. Track every run, its status, cost breakdown, and any failures under Billing → Payroll Runs.
- What to do if a payment fails to fundIf a charge to your payment method doesn’t go through, the payment shows Funding failed and you’re notified with the reason. Fix the cause (top up funds or update your payment method), then use Retry funding — you can switch to a different method when you retry.
